Will you buy a 2009 Gold Buff?

I'm wondering if it will be worth it in the long run...Will we see the increase in second hand selling like we have seen on the UHR's?

Yes, waiting for the proofs though.

apmex is selling at a 7% premium. I'm considering buying one, as quantities should be very limited, correct?

Might be cheaper to buy from the us mint directly as opposed to apmex?

No, you will only be able to buy a proof from the mint at an insane markup. (The prices are on their website, based on today's price you would pay $1310 vs $1115 from APMEX for the bullion version.) I bought one about 5 hours ago and they had 1715 left, now they're down to 999. Might be gone soon, I'm not sure how many they started with.

I'm also going to get some frac eagles in Dec for the same reason. I passed on the frac buffs last year, I'm not going to make that mistake again!

Tell the sellers to read the news - tee tee tee.

If they offer them I'll buy 10 at least!

U.S. MINT SUSPENDS COLLECTOR COIN PRODUCTION
Tuesday, October 6, 2009

Mike Zielinski of the Mint News Blog reports today that because of high demand for gold and silver coins, the U.S. Mint has suspended production of gold and silver collector coins so that it may concentrate on bullion coins. You can read Zielinski's report here:

No, they charge you straight off, then ship. (they also wait to ship until 10 biz days after they get your check, but that seems standard when dealing in pm's)

You do know they're not making any fractional gold eagles this year, right?
Not the uncirculated type with the mintmark, anyway.

Yeah, but how many bullion coins can they squeeze out in one month? They won't be sent out to the dealers until December. I'm not saying they will be anywhere near the value of the frac buffs, but I think they have potential to go beyond their bullion value. And if not, you will still pay bullion prices for them, so I see it as a win win.

Go to APMEX and find an item, go to the box to add to your cart and just keep pressing 9 until it says "Wait a minute there buddy, we only have XXX of these available". OK so it wont exactly say wait a minute there buddy, but hey, I think it should.

BINGO. That's the question I've been asking, and have yet to find an answer, but in the past I do know that next year's bullion products have always been available for pre-order from major dealers in December, and current year's bullion has ceased being produced at the end of December. Either that policy will change for the 1st time, or eagle fractionals will not be avaible after all, IMO.
I also wonder how many bullion Buffs they squeeze out in two months.

Just pulled the plug on one. I've been wanting a buff for awhile now, and the 08's are just too much of a premium.

This is a good deal, imo. Just about $30 more than a gold eagle at current prices.

Here's my question on the 09 buffalo. Isn't it late in the game for this? It's already october. I own a 2010 gold aussie kangaroo already, in hand. Could the mintage of 09 buffalo's be abnormally small? Due to the time constrant? When is the 2010 buffalo going to be minted?

I'm see opportunity here folks. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I pulled the pin on one last night. The buy price has gone up $25 since I bought it. I really hate buying at the peak, but I wanted to be sure that I got one. I have a feeling the Mint is going all out on production of both the Buff and UHR at these gold prices, I'm glad I already have a UHR.

I'd be in the same boat, if I'd bought a second UHR. For some reason, I held off. I never thought that the Mint would manage to get the 2009 Buff minted. Hoping for really low numbers minted.

Re: Will you buy a 2009 Gold Buff?

I think IMVHO that the ODDS in Las Vegas of the US mint finding any BLANKS for the MINT (read special proof and or uncirculated ones) to use is about a HUNDRED to ONE. :signs14: I wrote down my thoughts! Heck they can't even keep up with the MONSTER GREEN BOX demand, can they? With unemployment at 21% - they could hire a MILLION folks if they had one of the 281 MILLION ounces they have (leased) in public TRUST! :signs14:

This is about GOLD WARS and waiting until the price hits $3000.00 to sell the very few they did not lease out to the BANKSTERS in the BULLION business at 1%.

:111::111::111:

Would YOU not sell off a least a milliojn ounces that YOU took from the people in 1933 at $20 an OUNCE if you had it say for $1300 an OUNCE?
Hell yes you would if you had it, right?

Now here's the KILLER fact - the ones on the COMEX who are getting delivery of their gold bars say they are the 90% MELTED ones from the old SAINTS and LIBERTIES in 1937! (PER GATA of course - not me.) That means they are hitting the BOTTOM of the BARREL in those 281 MILLION OUNCES, right? :111::111:

Get real serious.

On the next dip I might consider it, unless the premium is too steep. I have one and it is a nice coin but I try to remind myself that my goal is not numi's, it's to collect as much bullion as I can. I recently bought a Pamp Suisse oz because I got a good deal on the premium. I can buy an oz or 2 of silver with the savings.

At 10-9-09, ~7PM CST, 1597 in stock. Very limited supply, riiiggghht. Still, no buyers remorse, the '09 Buffs are still a good deal compared to a GAE, IMO.

I am so weak. I voted no in the poll, talked about how the premium is too high, and yet I just impulse bought a 2009 Buffalo. I was at APMEX looking to buy the GIM rounds, which I did, but before I checked out I wanted to look at the Buff, that was a big mistake. Oh well, better than spending it on drugs and whores.

Judging by the Mint's price chart, the Gold Buffalo Proof will be $1,360 :36_1_25:

It's strange, though, because the normal "uncirculated" Buffalo is being sold for $1,358 (according to that price chart). :confused_ma:

I'm going to play it by ear and watch the weekly mintages. I have a feeling the mint has plenty of blanks, and remember they can sell these well into the next year. If sales drag on and mintages stall under 20K, I'll bite. But they probably wont--- too much pent up demand.

I was hoping for a limit of 1 per household seeing as how I can only afford 1 right now and wanting it to be something special.

But - is there any such thing as a 2009 "uncirculated" buffalo?
Wouldn't that be one of the collector-targeted coins with the "W" mintmark that was discontinued, and therefore doesn't exist in the 2009 form?

I thought the mint didn't sell business strikes directly to consumers but only to dealers . . . and "uncirculated" and "business strike" are two different things, right?

I was all set to buy a proof buff, but now I don't know.

I've read that there is no household limit and there will be no mintage limit. With the pent up demand and the insane prices that the 08 buffalo proofs are going for, i'm certain that there will be a bazillion of these things sold in a very short time frame.

I was all set to get one. I'm gonna have to think about it now. I might wait for the platinum eagle.

I have to think the mint has already produced more then the 2008's (19,591)
Is it possible they produce less? Then it might be worth it to get a first strike PF70 2009?
The platinum might be a better bet.

I wonder how much the PLT PF will be???? I would rather see a .99999 2009 Maple but maybe the RCM is more Mickey Mouse than the US mint go figure:no_ma:

Doing fine! Hey, you seem to have some pull at the US Mint if I recall...Maybe you could work a miracle with RCM! :36_3_12: It's going to be a very short series of 2 years if they don't mint a 2009 for us!!!!

The only limits I've seen have been on commemoratives e.g. (Lincoln Chronicles) and special offerings (UHR when first released)

The 2008-W Buffaloes are an anomaly!

I remember talking to many investors/collectors back in '07 and many turned their heads when I suggested bullion and proof buffs. The Eagles have been around for 20 years and many stated they'd continue their Eagle run. IMO, this is why the buffs mintage have always been lower.

With the...
-Spot swings of '08, where the mint suspends product for months at a time
-The ineptness of the Mint pertaining to running a business (albeit gov't ran so not surprising)
-Investors/collectors preferring Eagles
-Enough buff fans to make the coins viable (unlike the FS)

And there you have the perfect storm, causing a run on '08-W buffs.

Now, that many know of the '08-W buffs rise, IMO, the '09-W buff will not see the same heights.

If you like buffs from their inception, they'll be part of your portfolio.

I don't think we'll be seeing 5-9s anymore :signs14:
I also check the RCM's site and have called several times this year... nada, nothing!

I've had to change my strategy for the year based on the lack of wanted product from the US & RC Mints.

What's funny is the US Mint 'waited' for Au to reach its highest exchange rate when they decide to release the '09 buffalo... it would be funny if the RCM follows suit with the 5-9s ML?

LOL... call back and keep going back to the site.
I go to the site once a week.

I'm with you...
When I got the '07 it wasn't that much above spot. The '08 a little more but not bad. Now, try to find them at all :no_ma:

If they do, I'm there! I'f not hopefully we'll see '07 & '08 shoot for the moon!
